Day Trip – Holy Monastery of Panagia Hodigitria Portaria, Kala Nera & Volos

Departure from Larissa and from Agios Vissarionos Square at 08:30 with destination the Holy Monastery of Panagia Hodigitria in Portaria, Pelion. The Monastery is located at an altitude of 620 m., was founded in 1961 and hosts approximately 30 nuns. It is a Subdistrict of the Holy Monastery of Philotheos of Mount Athos and was the place where Elder Ephraim of America settled, while the presence of Elder Makrina was also significant. In the area we find the old stone-built church of the Virgin Mary, the newer church of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary and the tomb of Elder Makrina.

After the pilgrimage, departure for Kala Nera, where we will have free time for a walk and an optional lunch at a local tavern. Afterwards, we will head to Volos for a stop at the beach, coffee and a walk along the beautiful coastal road.

In the afternoon, departure and return to Larissa.
