2nd Greetings – Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity, Ano Gatzea & Volos
March 6, 2026
Participation fee 10€
A devout afternoon excursion to Pelion, combining pilgrimage and a beautiful walk by the sea.
Departure at 15:30 from Agios Vissarionos Square to the Holy Monastery of the Holy Trinity in Ano Gatzea. The men's monastery is built on a rocky hill with a panoramic view of the Pagasetic Gulf and is a particularly historical and spiritual place. It was founded in 1816 on the ruins of an old Venetian castle, part of which survives to this day. After a period of abandonment, it reopened as a men's monastery and today is a part of the Holy Monastery of the Great Lavra of Mount Athos.
In the monastery area we will see the church of the Holy Trinity with the modern wood-carved iconostasis, the chapels, the cells and the impressive cross that dominates the sea, as well as a small exhibition space with sacred relics. We will watch the sequence of the Second Salutations in a devout atmosphere.
Then departure for Volos, where we will have about an hour and a half of free time for a walk on the beach, coffee or food. In the evening return to Larissa.
