Departure at 12:45 from Agios Vissarionos Square, Larissa, with destination the Holy Monastery of Panagia Xenia.

Holy Monastery of Panagia Xenia – The Hill of Golgotha
In a landscape of unparalleled natural beauty, the Holy Monastery of Panagia Xenia, 16 kilometers south of Almyros, hosts the annual reenactment of the Crucifixion and the Ceremony of the Decapitation.

The ceremony begins at 15:00 on the "Hill of Golgotha", where a multitude of believers from all over Greece gather to watch the devout procession.

The reenactment of the Crucifixion and the Decapitation of the Crucified are performed with deep religious emotion, while the believers have the opportunity to venerate the Cross (7 meters high) via a special staircase.

The procession of Jesus to the carved cave of burial is accompanied by mournful marches of the Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipality of Almyros, creating a unique atmosphere of awe and faith.

After the end of the ceremony, return to Larissa.

A unique opportunity to experience a shocking religious custom up close, in one of the most historic monasteries in Greece.
