A unique three-day excursion to the magnificent Northern Epirus, full of history, Greek villages, coastal landscapes and important cultural monuments. Christoni Travel invites you to get to know Gjirokastër, Saranda, Himarra and the ancient Buthroti, on a journey full of images and emotions.
Day 1: Larissa – Gjirokastër – Saranda
Departure at 07:00 from Agios Vissarionos Square, heading to the borders of Kakavia, making intermediate stops for rest and coffee. After the border control and a stop at the duty free, we visit Vouliarates and the Military Cemetery of the Greek fallen of 1940-41. We continue to Dervitsani, one of the most important Greek-speaking villages of Dropoli, where we will visit the Church of the Virgin Mary and have time for coffee.
Next stop is the historic Argyrokastro, the famous “stone city” of UNESCO, with the impressive castle and the traditional mansions that testify to the long history of the region. Free time for lunch and sightseeing and then departure for Saranda. Check-in at the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Day 2: Saranda – Himara – Saranda
After breakfast we depart for the magnificent Himara, crossing one of the most beautiful coastal routes of the Albanian Riviera. In Himara, an area with a strong Greek element, we will visit the old village, the church of All Saints built by Saint Cosmas the Aitolian and the Greek school.
Free time for coffee, a walk and lunch by the sea. Return to Saranda with an intermediate view of the imposing castle of Lekoursis and the endless blue of the Ionian Sea. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 3: Saranda – Buthros – Larissa
Breakfast and a walk along the Saranda beach before departing for the famous Buthros, one of the most important archaeological sites in the Balkans and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will get to know the ancient city with its theater, market, gymnasium and early Christian basilicas, in a unique natural environment.
We continue through the Greek-speaking villages of the Vourkos region and return to Greece via the Mavromatio border station. With intermediate stops along the way, we arrive in Larissa in the evening, full of beautiful images from a journey full of history, culture and natural beauty.
